What Affects the Cost of Greenhouse Removal?
The cost of removing a greenhouse in Northern Ireland can vary depending on several factors. While it’s possible to give a guide price, every greenhouse is different, so the final quotation will depend on the following factors outlined below.
Size of the Greenhouse
One of the biggest factors affecting the cost is the overall size of the greenhouse. Smaller greenhouses, such as 6×8 feet or 8×10, generally take less time to dismantle and remove than larger structures measuring 10×12, 10×16 or bigger. Larger greenhouses contain more glass or polycarbonate panels, a larger aluminium frame and require more time to dismantle and load.

Before & after
Glass or Polycarbonate Panels
The type of panels used on the greenhouse can also affect the cost of removal. Traditional aluminium greenhouses fitted with 3 mm horticultural glass require each pane to be carefully removed before the frame can be dismantled. As the glass is relatively thin and fragile, extra care is needed during removal to minimise breakages.
Polycarbonate greenhouses can also vary considerably in their construction. Some use lightweight glazing panels that can be removed relatively quickly, while others are fitted with much thicker polycarbonate sheets that may be bolted, riveted or otherwise fixed to the frame. These types of installations can take significantly longer to dismantle.
Contents Inside the Greenhouse
In most cases, customers will have emptied the greenhouse before the removal takes place. However, some customers may ask for additional items to be removed as part of the service. These can include shelving, potting benches, plant pots, compost, planters and other gardening equipment.
If additional contents need to be removed and disposed of at the same time as the greenhouse, this will usually be taken into account when providing a quotation.
Access
Access to the greenhouse can have a impact on the overall cost of removal. If the greenhouse is located close to where the van can be parked, dismantling and loading can usually be completed more efficiently.
However, some properties present more challenging access. For example, the greenhouse may be located behind a terrace property where access is only available through a shared passageway or gate at the end of the row. In these situations, every section of the greenhouse, together with any additional contents, has to be carried a much greater distance before it can be loaded into the van.
Long carrying distances, steps, sloping gardens or other access restrictions all increase the amount of time and labour required.

Before & after
Vegetation Around the Greenhouse
Overgrown vegetation can also affect the cost of greenhouse removal. If the greenhouse has become covered with ivy, climbing plants, shrubs, bushes or small trees, these will usually need to be cut back before the greenhouse can be dismantled.
Removing the vegetation takes additional time and will also generate green waste that needs to be removed and disposed of along with the greenhouse. Where significant clearance work is required before the greenhouse can be accessed, this will normally be reflected in the quotation.
Location
As Removerr provides greenhouse removal throughout Northern Ireland, the location of the property will also be taken into account when providing a price. Travelling distance and the time required to reach the property both form part of the overall cost, particularly for properties located further away or in more rural areas.
Greenhouse Removal FAQs
Below are answers to some of the most common questions about greenhouse removal. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, drop me an email at andrew@removerr.co.uk.
Q. Do I Need to Empty the Greenhouse Before Removal?
A. While many customers choose to empty the greenhouse before collection, it’s not essential. If you’d like shelving, potting benches, plant pots or other gardening equipment removed at the same time, just let us know when requesting a quotation.
Q. Can You Remove Broken Greenhouse Glass?
A. Yes. Removerr can dismantle and remove greenhouses containing broken glass. I’ve removed greenhouses that had been badly damaged during storms, where a large proportion of the glass had already shattered before I arrived on site.
When requesting a quotation, it’s always helpful to let me know if any of the glass has already been broken. If possible, forwarding a few photographs showing the extent of the damage will also help me provide a more accurate quotation.
Q. Do I Need to Dismantle the Greenhouse First?
A. No. In most cases, it’s actually more efficient if I dismantle the greenhouse myself. This allows the glass to be removed carefully, grouped together and securely taped before being loaded into the van.
If a greenhouse has already been dismantled but the glass hasn’t been stacked and taped correctly, it will usually need to be reorganised before it can be safely loaded. For that reason, it’s often quicker and more efficient for me to dismantle the greenhouse from start to finish as part of the removal service.
Q. Do You Remove Polycarbonate Greenhouses?
A. Yes. Although most of the greenhouse removal enquiries I receive are for traditional aluminium and glass greenhouses, I also dismantle and remove polycarbonate greenhouses.
If you’d like to see an example of a recent project, you can also read my Polycarbonate Greenhouse Removal case study, which explains how a large polycarbonate greenhouse was dismantled and removed.
Q. Do You Remove the Concrete Base?
A. Greenhouse removal quotations do not normally include the removal of the concrete base. If required, I can break up the concrete base as a separate job, provided a suitable skip has been arranged by the customer for the concrete to be loaded into.
If you’d like the concrete base broken up and removed at the same time as the greenhouse, just let me know when requesting a quotation so I can discuss the available options and provide a separate price.
Q. Do You Provide Greenhouse Removal Throughout Northern Ireland?
A. Yes. Removerr provides greenhouse dismantling, removal and disposal throughout many parts of Northern Ireland, including Belfast, Lisburn, Bangor, Newtownards, Holywood, Carrickfergus and Newtowabbey.
