Expired Food Waste Disposal NI
Removerr recently completed a commercial expired food waste clearance for a large company based in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. The job involved the collection and disposal of 1.74 tonnes of expired confectionery and pet food, including a wide mix of sweets, candy, chocolate, and dry food products dating back to the COVID period. All waste was non-hazardous, meaning it was handled under a standard waste transfer note and headed invoice, without the need for NIEA consignment paperwork.
In total, the waste was collected over two separate loads, the first weighing 900 kg and the second 840 kg, which was neatly wrapped on pallets for ease of handling. The material was transported to a licensed waste disposal facility where it was processed in full compliance with Northern Ireland waste management regulations.
According to UK food waste research, manufacturers and retailers generate millions of tonnes of expired and surplus food stock every year. Items with a shorter shelf life and high turnover, including confectionery, snack foods, and packaged goods are among the most commonly discarded. Because redistribution is often not viable, this type of commercial food waste typically follows disposal routes such as landfill or incineration.
